BOTOX® is a time-tested, increasingly popular, very safe, and non-invasive method of eliminating or softening some of the deeper expression lines of the face, especially the frown lines between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet lines around the eyes. There are other places that BOTOX® can be used but these are the most common. BOTOX® is a purified chemical, derived from bacteria but biologically inert, which is injected through a very tiny needle into one or more muscles of the face to temporarily (usually 3 or 4 months) weaken those muscles and allow the unwanted wrinkles or expression lines caused by the action of those muscles on the overlying skin to flatten out. It is done in such a way that the muscles necessary for normal facial expression are preserved while the unnecessary unwanted muscle actions are eliminated. The process takes only a few minutes and there are no visible or minimal after effects or side effects. The resultant improved appearance may take several days to set in but should then last about four months. The injection may be then repeated or not, depending on one’s own personal desires.
