Liposuction Facts And Myths

Despite the periodic negative publicity about liposuction, it still remains the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in this country today and, in the right hands, the safest and most gratifying. Surprised? ...... Read on.

Did you know that:

Liposuction can and in 99.9% of cases should be performed under local (tumescent) anesthesia, even large volume liposuction.

With the proper small canula technigue, significant blood loss, blood closts, noticable surface irregularities, and other serious complications can be virtually eliminated.

Liposuction is a much more safe and conservative and effective way of doing a tummy reduction than a "tummy tuck" (or abdominoplasty). 99% of people who think they need a tummy tuck really don't.

People of all shapes and sizes, including the very large and oftentimes the very small can benefit from liposuction on general or localized areas.

Liposuction is not painless but it's not excruciating either. Most people are back to a full work schedule in 3/5 days.

There are vast difference in thoroughness among liposuction surgeons. One should beware of doctors who take less than two or three hours to do most liposuction procedures... the results could be "hardly noticeable".

Computer imaging is the most valuable tool available for showing a person exactly what to expect from liposuction. It not only gives the patient a sense of the surgeon's artistry, but also it makes certain that you and your surgeon are on the same page as far as goals and results are concerned. Don't go home without it.

Liposuction patients are the happiest of all cosmetic surgery patients....they feel good about themselves, are more confident, are motivated to lose even more weight, and feel they have been lifted from the social stigma of being fat or having socially-unacceptable fat deposits and bulges.

Liposuction is a conservative and oftentimes very effective alternative to more invasive and risky procedures such as facelift, tummy tuck, and breast reduction.

In many cases, large volumes liposuction alone has resulted in significantly lower levels of insulin requirements in diabetics, blood pressure in hypertensives and serum cholesterol.
